The Shouting Men: Gillingham defender Luke O'Neill writes exclusively for the KM Group

I came so close to scoring the winner against Oldham last weekend that I was already off to celebrate!

I thought it was in and still don’t know if the keeper got a fingertip to it or not. I think he did and it was going in.

To have scored would have been fantastic, especially that late in the game.

I like to put myself forward for free-kicks. I have scored a few in training from around the box and fancy myself to score.

I think Sean Clare fancied it last Saturday as well. Conor Wilkinson did, too, but he had no chance!

The best free-kick I have scored was for Mansfield. It was in a similar position, just to the left a bit. It went into the top left-hand corner.

But had Saturday’s gone in that would have probably topped it because it was so late. It would have been a great win but we will take a point.

I have done well since coming back in from injury. It was frustrating to come off at Scunthorpe. I did my hamstring and was out for about five weeks.

I had played every game up to then and feel back to myself now. The injury probably came at the right time because it meant I could be there for the birth of my boy, who arrived just before the Blackburn game.

I had a couple of weeks where I didn’t get a lot of sleep but he is good as gold now.

I’ve got a daughter as well and the night before games I stay in the spare room. I made sure we agreed that before the second child was born!

I have never suffered with hamstrings before, it was a weird one but hopefully it doesn’t happen again.

Despite the results we’ve been getting, we’re still in the bottom four but have been unlucky. Normally a couple of teams drop points.

Those around us have been picking up points as well and it shows that every point counts.

We’ve got a break from the league now with Carlisle in the FA Cup. I haven’t played in a massive amount of FA Cup games because I have been out on loan at clubs and the parent team didn’t want me to play.

I haven’t been far in the FA Cup and it is one I will enjoy.

The big boys come into it in the next round and it would be nice to play one of them.

Hopefully, we get that win and go into the draw for round three. I wouldn’t mind Burnley next, my former club, but any of the big boys would do.
