Two goals from Sam Bird had put Southgate 2-0 up before Holcombe levelled it up to take the match to a shootout, which the Rochester side won 4-3.

The weekend final was the culmination of a five-week five-team hockey tournament which began in mid-April, put together following the cancellation of the domestic men’s season because of Covid.

Wimbledon, Reading and Hampstead & Westminster also took part, with the final. The gold medal match was won by Hampstead, beating Wimbledon 2-1.
