Scott Lindsey says he remains fully focused on his job at Crawley after being linked to the vacancy at Gillingham.

The Gills are looking for a head coach after sacking manager Neil Harris on Thursday.

Lindsey’s name has been mentioned straight away, with strong links to the Gills and the county. He’s turned things around at Crawley after making the surprise move to join them in January.

The former Chatham Town manager and ex-Gills youth coach and player, swapped the top end of League 2 for the bottom when he left Swindon for Crawley, but after escaping relegation last season, he’s now got the Reds fighting at the right end of the table.

The Gills beat Crawley 1-0 earlier this season but even departed boss Neil Harris admitted his team got lucky that day.

Lindsey was asked about the speculation linking him to the job at Gillingham ahead of their game against Wrexham.

He said: “I just focus on my job, that’s why I am in this job, I am fully focused.

“I understand the industry, when you are doing bad you get the sack, when you are doing well clubs will show an interest and that is a normal thing in this industry.

“I will focus on what the job is, that is to keep performing the way we are and hopefully keep winning as many games as we can.

“I work extremely hard in the job that I am in, I am committed to the job that I am in, I won’t listen to anything outside of that, I don’t listen to social media or anything anyway.

“I am quite single-minded, quite headstrong, I know what I have got to do.”

Harris’ departure from Gillingham this week came hot on the heels of Mark Hughes’ dismissal at Bradford City in League 2.

Lindsey said: “You feel like in every game you have to win and play well, that is the industry we are in.

“If you don’t perform, there’s an old saying in management that you are only five results away from being sacked, it is unfortunate for Mark and Neil, I got on with both of them, both good people. I’m sure both will be back in the game.”
