Kent’s Rob Cross missed out on a place in the PDC Home Tour finals following a thrilling semi-final showdown.

Pembury-born world no.4 player Cross was up against Nathan Aspinall, Jonny Clayton and Joe Cullen in the second semi-final of the lockdown tournament.

The Home Tour started in April with players toeing the oche from their own homes. Deal’s Ross Smith was an early casualty in the tournament, losing out in the first round, competing from his garden shed.

Former World Champion Cross - known to darts fans as ‘Voltage’ in reference to his previous job as an electrician - made it through to the semis by topping his qualifying group.

But it wasn’t to be his night on Thursday, with the group going to the wire.

Cross needed a win against Clayton to qualify but suffered a 6-1 defeat.

He had earlier been beaten 6-4 by Cullen - his opponent hitting seven 180s in the 10 legs with an average of 99 - before responding with a narrow 6-5 win against fellow Premier League player Aspinall.

Cross came back from a 3-1 down to win with, averaging 107.5

Each player had won one and lost one, heading into the final matches.

Joining Clayton in the final was Aspinall, beating Cullen 6-5.
