Holcombe enjoyed back-to-back wins from their double header against Wimbledon on Saturday.

The men’s 1s came from two goals down to win their Premier Division opener 5-3 against Wimbledon in a match that followed the women’s team beating the Wombles 2-1, in their return to top-flight action.

Nick Bandurak’s W1s had five debutants in their first squad of the 2024/25 campaign, returning straight back to the Premier Division after a successful season in Division 1 South.

Holcombe went 1-0 up in the fourth quarter with New Zealand international Olivia Shannon firing home on her debut after good work from Evie Younger.

Wimbledon - led on the sidelines by former Holcombe coach Kevin Johnson - levelled the match on 67 minutes following a penalty corner, scored by ex-Holc Beth Bingham, but the Medway side still found time for a winner.

Emma Bandurak scored the decider with a shot that had just enough power to find the net following a penalty corner, a goal coming with just a minute left on the clock.

Kwan Browne’s M1s followed that match up, and he included seven new faces in the squad for the 6.30pm pushback against Wimbledon’s men’s team.

A bright start from the visitors saw Sam Hooper and Ben Francis strike to give the Wombles an early 2-0 advantage.

Tom Russell halved the deficit in Q2, Wimbledon got another to lead 3-1, but goals from summer signings Teague Marcano and Mubashar Ali squared it up at 3-3 heading into the final quarter.

Fellow newcomers Matt Ramshaw and Ali Shan struck to complete the turnaround for Holcombe and a win double for the senior sides.

This Saturday, Holcombe M1s play away against Cardiff while the W1s are away at Bowdon.
