Streatham have won their opening three Southern Cup matches and with games in hand over the teams above them in the league they are also primed to return to the top of the pile.

The Mos lost twice to Streatham in November but have tasted success against them this season with a 3-0 win in London in mid-October and will be confident that they can rock the champions this weekend.

Head coach Karl Lennon said: “Streatham are one of the best teams, if not the best, we have to perform against them and it is a good opportunity as well, the expectation is a little lower on us this week.

“There is so much talent in our squad and when we have played Streatham so far this year they have showed up and that is what I have to hope for this weekend, that we knuckle down and get the job done.

“Champions are champions for a good reason, they have that experience and they have now done it for two to three seasons already, that is something you don’t forget overnight. They have a very strong and deep roster which is a big strength of theirs but we are definitely in a better place than we were last year, we’ve beaten them this year already in a friendly and in the league, but we are still some way off where they are.

“Our ambition is to keep closing the gap. We have to be realistic but I am also optimistic too because I do think this group has a lot to give and a lot more to push forward with.

“Streatham are performing really well at the moment, they are on a bit of a storm, we need to be much better that weekend than we were last, that will be the minimum really.

“We have played well against them this year generally, only one of the games we played we let ourselves down in one period, but we have had a good account of ourselves and we have to take some confidence from that and try and apply that to the weekend.”

The Mos are sitting fifth in the NIHL South Division 1 table after picking up three points last weekend. Lennon’s side have won two out of two in the Southern Cup, which is formed of a five-team league.

Lennon said: “We had good experiences with cup competitions last year and we want to maintain that if we can. If you want to win a cup you have to beat the best teams.”
