It was a freak set of circumstances admits Invicta Dynamos netminder Damien King

Invicta Dynamos played 18 minutes without a netminder – but still beat Milton Keynes.

The Mos were forced to guard an empty net after “a one in a million” set of circumstances.

Netminder Damien King, who had moved to the Mos mid-season after being poached from MK, had left his kit out to dry at their Gillingham venue. He was expecting to see it arrive for the game at MK.

But when the kit van was unpacked and King was still without his pads, panic set in. The Mos had no back-up goalie and no spare kit. An SOS message was sent to Gillingham.

Despite the setback, the Mos managed to stage a remarkable comeback winning 6-2, after trailing 2-0 in NIHL South Division 1.

King said: “MK did all they could, they are a class bunch and a local goalie offered me his kit but it would have been just as quick to get mine sent up from Gillingham.

“Unfortunately there was an accident on the M25 and even though we had used delaying tactics, the game went ahead.

“I wasn’t keen for the game to go ahead at first. I thought we were going to get a drumming and should call it a day but the boys in the locker room are so strong and they went out there and did a fantastic job.

“There was an electric atmosphere afterwards. We were gobsmacked about what had just happened and it just shows what this team can achieve if we put our minds to it.

“I will definitely be taking my kit home with me from now on. It was a freak set of circumstances, a million-to-one chance.”

The night before, the Mos had recorded a 5-1 win over Oxford City Stars with Ozollapa bagging a hat-trick.
