Justin Edinburgh has explained why he made three changes for Saturday’s game at Scunthorpe.

Bradley Dack, John Marquis and Aaron Morris, who all started the 1-0 win over Rochdale seven days earlier, dropped to the bench and were replaced by Jake Hessenthaler, Luke Norris and Ollie Muldoon.

Edinburgh said: “We just wanted to freshen one or two things up, give some players a few minutes before the end of the season.

“Bradley’s played a lot of games (and so have) Aaron Morris and John Marquis so we’ll do the same next week.”

Muldoon, on loan from Charlton, made his third appearance for the Gills in a deep midfield role.

Edinburgh admitted: “I think it’d be difficult to judge him in the circumstances. But the application and effort from every player was spot-on in difficult conditions.

“I’m sure (Muldoon) will learn. He’s enjoyed his stay here, he feels he’s learnt a lot and I think we’ll send him back to Charlton better equipped to further his career.”
