Gillingham goalkeeper Jake Turner insists the players are feeling the pain too.

The Gills were booed off on Saturday after another disappointing display - losing 2-1 despite taking the lead as the team’s inability to hold onto an advantage this season continues.

Goalkeeper Turner couldn’t do a lot with the goals conceded but faced up to the media on Saturday after the defeat.

“Everyone's frustrated,” said the 25-year-old stopper. “Obviously it hurts the fans a lot, it hurts the players equal amounts, it hurts the staff.

“We just have to find something within ourselves to bring the wins in and try and put a run together.

“We obviously have to see the game out (after taking the lead). [If we] can't win it, definitely don't lose it.

“It's probably happened on too many occasions this year, so we just have to learn from it, we have to stick together and we have to try and put another run of wins together.

“We worked so hard to get ourselves in front and we do through Tim Dieng.

“It was never going to be a pretty game with the (wet and windy weather) conditions. We got the advantage and then the last 30 minutes wasn't good enough. We probably dropped off a bit too deep and kind of allowed them to put a bit of pressure on.

“It has happened too many times, we all know that.

“We've got to try and put an end to that and try and hold onto the 1-0s or try and put teams to bed and try and score a few more.

“We just have to either maybe stay higher up the pitch or slow the game down in times, or speed it up in times. We're going to obviously chase for another goal, but obviously this was a frustrating one.”

The Gills have another break now before playing Bromley away next Wednesday (December 4).

Turner said: “At least we have a lot of time now to work on things that didn't go quite so well.

“I'm sure we'll work hard on the training ground and be ready for the next one.

“Everyone wearing the badge is frustrated. We have to just stick together and try and find it within ourselves to bring the results.”
