Justin Edinburgh lifted the FA Cup as a player in 1991 but is still waiting to make his mark in the competition as a manager.

Reaching the first round proper as manager of Billericay was an achievement but Edinburgh would love a run to the latter rounds with Gillingham.

Securing a win on Saturday would help lift some of the gloom at Priestfield as the team struggle to get their League 1 season going.

Gills boss Edinburgh said: “As a manager I haven’t done particularly well in the competition but there is always time to put that right.

“The game comes as a bit of a distraction and a welcome one. Things certainly haven’t gone to plan, in terms of results of late in the league.

“Performances have been good and we will be looking to replicate that on Saturday.

“We know we are a scalp and we have witnessed that first hand this season, in the EFL Cup this year (beating Premier League Watford) so as much as it is an opportunity to get a run in the cup, we have to certainly give the respect and not underestimate Brackley by any stretch.

“It’s a game we want to win and if we can win then it will get is back on the winning trail and give us the confidence to go on and win in the league.

“It’s a good opportunity, a great game for us and one we’re looking forward to.”
