Robert Caswell’s Southern Area super featherweight title fight against Michael Webber-Kane will take place at York Hall in February

Robert Caswell has laughed off “fake injury” claims after a new date for his title showdown with Michael Webber-Kane was agreed.
The pair were set to meet at York Hall for the vacant Southern Area super featherweight belt in October but the Medway fighter had to pull out because of a perforated eardrum.
Caswell picked up the injury in the last round of sparring during his training camp for the fight but four weeks ago he got the all-clear from doctors. A new date of Saturday, February 24 has been agreed.
With a record of 8-0, Caswell will be confident of landing the area belt and laughed off suggestions from the opposite camp that he had faked the injury.
“I’ve heard some stupid things, they think I bottled the fight and pulled out with a fake injury!
“I wouldn’t bottle a fight and then get it rescheduled straight away and I haven’t been up Medway hospital for the fun of it over the last few weeks!”
With both men able to attract good support, the southern area fight is looking like it may well headline the TM14 Promotions show at York Hall.
On the same night Louie O’Doherty will face ex-kickboxing champion Marley Mason for the lightweight southern area title.
Caswell’s opponent Webber-Kane came through a fight last week unscathed, beating Santiago Garces on points to take his professional record to 11-0.
With both men putting their unbeaten records on the line, the promoters see it as a 50-50 fight that they say “both set of fans have been itching for.”
Caswell is relieved to have put his injury setback behind him now after getting the green light to resume training. He’s been sparring hard in the gym before starting an eight-week intensive camp at the end of the month.
He said: “I went to see an ear specialist and he has said it had healed up and I could see where the hole was. The doctor said one day you will wake up and feel such a difference with your hearing and that was the case, I woke up and it was clear again.
“I wanted to get another fight in before the end of the year but it was just too tight to be able to but it doesn’t bother me too much, I have this to focus on now and I should be firing on all cylinders by the time it comes around.”
