A former Gillingham player and manager has been named as a lottery winner.

Ady Pennock shared the joy of picking up a cheque for over £83,333 along with other members of his postcode - including his son.

Pennock - a former player and manager of the Gills - along with fellow Hempstead residents scooped the win on the Postcode Lottery’s weekly Millionaire Street prize.

The lucky winners all live in the ME7 3TG postcode in Shepherd’s Gate, Hempstead.

Ady began his playing career at Norwich City but went onto play over 100 games for Bournemouth and then became a key player for the Gills after joining them in 1996, going on to captain the side and help them to promotion with a win at Wembley in the play-offs.

He went onto manage the Gills, with less success, but will forever be a hero among fans from his time as a player.

Following a spell at Barrow, he worked abroad, leading Brunei side DPMM onto back-to-back Singapore Premier League titles.

Ady’s son Ashley - a dad of two who works as a secondary school teacher - called his dad and found out he was also a winner!

He said: “To win as a family, I can’t believe it. To share this experience with them when they’re getting the same thing, it is just amazing.”

Ashley’s mum Tania said: “This is incredible for me and Adrian, but I’m so made up for my son and his wife. We’ve been sharing the anticipation together for the past week. It’s been such fun.”

The father and son shared the £1m prize with nine neighbours, with each ticket worth £83,333.
