Justin Edinburgh hopes to see his Gills team return fully charged after a weekend off.
Facing them today (Saturday) at Priestfield is a top-of-the-table clash against Burton Albion.
The visitors sit top of League 1, three points above the Gills but with an inferior goal difference.
Gills boss Edinburgh said: “We gave the players the weekend off and they came back in Monday, bright, breezy and sharp. We just hope long term this will stand us in good stead.
“As staff we also made a conscious effort to make sure we got rested. We have a busy period coming up and you need to step away from it sometimes to make sure you are ready for the challenge ahead, which is an exciting one and a big one.
“It is a time as a player you don’t want to be missing games. We’re in form, the team are playing well and every game coming up is a big one. That’s what we’re in it for.
“This a great game to play in. They went top with a midweek win last week and it’s another big game, as are all of them that are coming up, probably no bigger than this one.”
Burton have changed managers since their last game. Nigel Clough is back in charge after previous manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink took over at Championship QPR.
