Gillingham’s weekend match against Wrexham is a sellout and even the head coach has been inundated with requests for tickets.

Every seat in the home section at Priestfield was sold a week ago for the League 2 game against a Welsh side who have gained international attention due to their Hollywood owners and a Disney documentary series, Welcome to Wrexham.

Even the hospitality and executive boxes are sold out and the visitors could well also sell all of their 1,608 ticket allocation. Away fans are being accommodated in the lower Town End and a section of the Gordon Road stand.

“I know I have had plenty of ticket requests!” said head coach Stephen Clemence.

“I get a fair few that want to come and there has been double the amount that want to come to this one so there has been some interest, but it is a game everyone should be looking forward to.

“I know the fans will be right behind us and I thought it was great again on Tuesday at the start of the game with The Last Waltz (being sung by supporters). I think that should continue and can we go and get the three points?

“We have been scoring a lot more goals recently, we haven’t scored in two games, but I am pleased with the clean sheet (against leaders Stockport on Tuesday night).

“We are a point closer to the target and the tally we want to get to which we think will give us a chance and now we have to look forward to Wrexham.

“I said after the Newport game (last weekend) that we can beat anyone and I honestly believe these boys can.

“We have to turn up and we have to bring our A-game, seven or eight of the players have to bring their A-game if we are going to be dominant and win football matches but they are capable of doing that.

“I am really looking forward to the Wrexham game already. Let’s look forward to taking them on next.”

Wrexham won promotion from the National League last season and with Hollywood owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds at the helm, they have gained plenty of publicity - evident by the interest shown for the weekend.

The game coming up has attracted a much bigger audience than the 5,321 who watched the Gills take on the league leaders Stockport at Priestfield on Tuesday night.

That game finished goalless and Clemence was pleased with how his team kept the league leaders quiet.

He said: “We made it a bit of a scrappy game and we would have liked to have been better with the ball at times, but also it is not always what we do. The opposition are trying to stop us as well, and they are good players defensively too for Stockport.

“We didn’t create as much as I would like but I am definitely pleased with how we stopped Stockport.”
