Gillingham goalkeeper Glenn Morris knows there’s no time for sulking after a bad week on the pitch.
A 2-0 loss at Crewe last Saturday followed their midweek home defeat against Grimsby Town.
Despite the losses, the Gills stay joint top of League 2 in a table that’s showing little sign of anyone pulling clear.
Morris - nominated for the League 2 player-of-the-month for September - won’t let one bad week get the better of him.
He said: “It was a bad week, two defeats on the spin, but we’ve got time to put it right now. We’ve got to put it behind us, but we've got to learn from it.
“You can sit and sulk but we’ve got to move on.
“We’ve got to get on to Saturday and think of picking up points very quickly, and you can do. You can have a bad week, but we can go and have a good week and then build on that.
“We’ve got to try and nip it in the bud and get a positive result Saturday.”
Gillingham host lowly Accrington Stanley this Saturday at Priestfield.
Morris’ player-of-the-month nomination followed a super September.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper came in at the end of August to replace injured Jake Turner, keeping a clean sheet against Chesterfield and following it up with three more shut-outs in September.
Now the Gills have had problems at the other end, with blanks in defeats against Grimsby and Crewe.
Looking back at last weekend’s game, he said: “It was just one of those games where we didn’t really get going, again, and we go behind.
“Similar to [last] Tuesday, we just couldn’t find our attacking threat, which we know we’ve got in the locker, but it just wasn’t there.”
For his own part, Morris hasn’t done much wrong, continuing to excel despite his age. He turns 41 in December but on this form could keep a fit-again Turner out of the team.
He said: “Jake’s done fantastically well. It’s unfortunate that he got an injury and I’ve had to come in. I’m happy with how I’m doing and I feel good. It’s just a shame we have had a bad week.
“Defensively we’ve been pretty strong and so to let in two goals is not what we want as a team, a back-four or defensive unit, but we will have to learn from it.
“Hopefully we can put it right on Saturday.”
