Gillingham striker Lewis Walker has left for an opportunity with a National League side.

Woking have signed Walker permanently after previously having him there on loan earlier this season.

The 24-year-old has penned an 18-month contract with the Cards where he played four games during a loan spell.

Walker scored on his debut for Woking against AFC Fylde in late September as he worked his way back from injury, which led to him missing most of Gills’ pre-season campaign after picking up a knock at Dover.

Injuries haven’t helped Walker’s spell throughout his time at Gillingham - first joining in the summer of 2022 following a trial - and he leaves with 17 league appearances behind him, without scoring. Four of those were from the start.

Walker did score the winner against Fylde for the Gills in an FA Cup game in November 2022 and added another three goals that season in the EFL Trophy.

He made just two appearances for the Gills this season, coming off the bench late on in the FA Cup game at Hereford and playing a full game against Fulham under-21s in the Trophy.

Gillingham head coach Stephen Clemence said: “In my time at the football club Lewis has always conducted himself in a very professional manner.

“He is a person that we think very highly of, I have very much enjoyed working with him and wish him all the best in his future career."

Walker will be looking to help keep Woking in the National League, with the club sitting just outside the relegation places on goal difference, one place above Ebbsfleet United.
