Gillingham playmaker Jonny Williams knows they need to do more in attack after a goalless midweek draw.

Head coach Stephen Clemence has been improving the attacking output in recent weeks but the Gills put up the barricades to subdue leaders Stockport County on Tuesday night and offered little in attack.

While the Gills were happy to have claimed a point and a clean sheet against the League 2 leaders and top scorers, Williams admitted it was a frustrating game to play in as a forward.

Williams knows they need to do more this weekend against third-placed Wrexham and said: “We can play better than we did on Tuesday, we have shown that. We want to be more exciting of course, but it can be a sign of a good team when you are getting points when you’re not playing well

“We want to play on the front foot, we want to give our all for the shirt, we want to press high, we want to play with intensity, we want to get off to a quick start and we will be giving our all. We want to get crosses in the box, we want to be exciting to watch and hopefully, we can do that more on Saturday.”

The Gills have drawn their last four games at Priestfield.

Williams said: “There wasn’t much in the game on Tuesday, it wasn’t a very good game, to be honest. It was a game of two defences, their defence was good and our defence was good.

“I don’t think it was a great game to play in and not a great game to watch but it is a point against top of the league and we have to see that as a point gained.

“We have dropped a lot of points from not being consistent this year, I don't know what that comes down to, for sure we need to score more goals and be more attacking and exciting to watch, we know that. We’ll keep trying until the last game of the season and hopefully we will be in the top seven.

“It is getting down to crunch time, we have 13 left and we need to win as many as possible.”

Wrexham won 2-0 in Wales back in November when the sides last met and are pushing for an automatic promotion place.

Williams said: “We have a real chance of getting into the play-offs and they are pushing for automatic promotion so we are really looking forward to the game. There should be a great atmosphere and the fans can really help us.

“We have drawn a few games and played against some good teams. It has been frustrating as we want to win as much as we can at home but we need to be better, the lads know it and we will be.

“We have our own responsibility as players to get our fans on our side. We are best when we play on the front foot with intensity, locking teams in, sustaining attacks and getting fans on our side, we want to do that more and I believe we can do that on Saturday.

“We have to respect Wrexham, they are a very go outfit with very good players in the league, but I believe the same about us and it should be a good game. I am hoping it’s a better one than Tuesday.”
