Gillingham owner Brad Galinson on the reasons behind his team’s poor form in League 2 during October

Gillingham owner Brad Galinson is confident things will change after the team picked up just a point in October.

The Gills have been plagued by injury issues all season and it’s proved costly. Armani Little and Josh Andrews came off the substitutes’ bench at the weekend after recovering from injury but George Lapslie was absent.

It’s been a stop-start cycle for many of their players this term, denying the manager any consistency with his team selection.

Andrews has barely played all season while Little is back after brief time out of the squad.

Mr Galinson made his feeling known on social media after a terrible month for the Gills which had seen them lose five games in a row before a trip to Swindon on Saturday.

The Gills were 10 seconds away from winning that game at Swindon but conceded a stoppage-time equaliser. The match at the County Ground ended 1-1.

Mark Bonner is the third manager under Mr Galinson’s ownership at Gillingham, after both Neil Harris and Stephen Clemence were sacked, and the cub are desperate to find a way out of League 2. They currently sit 11th.

“Let’s be honest,” wrote the owner. “Mark cannot get a complete team together from week to week.

“We are playing like a mid-table team and we are positioned just where we deserve.

“Things will change. It is still early in the season and we have our players coming back.

“I still believe that we built the right group and we start to shine and show the fans just what we built.”

Lapslie was missing at the weekend after picking up an ankle injury last Tuesday in the game against Newport.

Speaking at the weekend, Bonner wasn’t sure how long he’d be out.

The manager said: “He's just got a swollen ankle. I don't know how long it is. It will be a little bit of time, but hopefully not too long.”

The Gills will hope to have goalkeeper Glenn Morris back available soon to add extra competition to that department.

Left-back Max Clark served a one-game suspension at the weekend and will return for the FA Cup match coming up on Saturday against Blackpool.

Robbie McKenzie, Aaron Rowe, Bradley Dack and Elliott Nevitt remain out injured.

Following the FA Cup game, the Gills will take on two of the division’s leading sides, hosting leaders Port Vale before heading to second-placed Walsall.

The Gills will need to pick themselves up after another blow at the weekend, with Bonner saying: “We walked away (from Swindon) with a point and everyone feels deflated, defeated, down, as much as we have been in the last two weeks.

“There was a real moment there to snap out of that run and it doesn't feel like we have.”
