Gillingham boss Steve Evans admitted they lacked the quality where it mattered on Saturday.

It was a case of two points dropped for Evans as he felt they had more than enough chances to have won the game against Shrewsbury.

He said: “Football is about scoring goals and making and creating chances.

“My recollection is that they bossed it a little bit more in the first half when they had three men in central midfield so they kept it well, without any fluency, saying that they don’t make a chance and we make some big, big chances.

“One chance goes to Connor Ogilvie when he hits the post and he should score and one to Vadaine Oliver and he should score.

“We go in at half time and identified where they were strong and we changed the system and the personnel and no doubt it worked, we bossed the game and they had to play more on the counter attack, rather than have any good possession.

“We then make a huge chance to win it. Dominic Samuel does great and sets up Vadaine and you would put your last pound on Vadaine scoring from there but he puts it just wide.

“What was missing was some real quality and how many real good crosses do we put into the box in search of our strikers? Not anywhere near enough.

“I think it was typified in the 93rd, 94th minute, we broke four against three and we put it into the goalkeeper’s arms.

“Vadaine in particular has been brilliant for us but we needed to find that bit of quality and it was missing.

“It is one of disappointment, we should have done better, but apart form one chance when they put it over form a breakaway in the second half I don't think Jack Bonham makes a save. We had four or five really good chances that you have to take if you are going to win games.”
