Gillingham head coach Stephen Clemence saluted the effort of the fans as they helped make things better on Saturday.
A point against leaders Stockport County on Tuesday attracted criticism for their lack of attacking bite, but the Gills got the balance right on Saturday, defending well against Wrexham and giving them something to think about too.

In the end, one goal settled it, a set-piece move that saw Max Clark pick out Conor Masterson at the back post and the defender turning the ball goalwards for Tim Dieng to force it over from a yard out.
The win came in front of a capacity home crowd.
Clemence said: “I really felt a togetherness out there from fans to players and the staff behind me and when you have that connection as a football club we can really make this place a fortress.
“The fans were fantastic and the players backed it up. It felt like a real proper football club today.
“It felt good to be out there in the technical area, it must have been great for the players out on the pitch. We obviously needed the supporters at times, they can help drive a player on.
“I still remember being a player and especially at home games when you are only 1-0 up and you need that little help from the crowd. They kept the boys going. I thought they were fantastic.
“The boys on the pitch did their job as well, we all know it’s a two-way thing, but I felt there was a connection there.”
Commenting on his players’ efforts, he said: “We knew we had to be better than we were from the last game. I felt we were getting into areas on Tuesday and we were running out of ideas. We had to work on it.
“We worked on it over the last couple of days and the boys carried it out fantastic, they were brave and deserved the victory.
“They (Wrexham) went to a bit of a diamond at the end and we had to try and nullify that, we matched them up a bit and Jayden Clarke was doing two jobs, he was on the sitting midfield player but he still had to support Hawks.
“Hawks (Oli Hawkins) was done in probably for the last 15 minutes but I needed to keep him on because he helps us so much in both boxes and we knew there would possibly be some corners coming in.
“It was all hands to the pump but with our shape at the end, I felt we nullified them and they didn’t cause us too much of a problem so I’m pleased.
“It’s been a good couple of games, we’ve played two really good teams and I felt we have gone toe-to-toe with them.
“We didn't create enough in the last game but I felt today we did and I felt we deserved the victory. The boys were absolutely immense.
“I love working with the group, they are a really good group to work with and I really enjoyed watching them.
“They took responsibility, were patient in their build-up, but weren’t just going backwards all the time, there was a plan to get out and they carried it out to a tee and that takes courage, it takes being a good football player. I am delighted we have come away with a victory.”
