Gillingham’s midweek FA Cup opponents have just appointed a new manager.
AFC Fylde had interim boss Andy Taylor at the helm when the Gills were held to a 1-1 draw at the National League North side last weekend. The Lancashire club announced on Monday that Adam Murray has taken over as their new first team head coach.
Murray has previously managed at Mansfield Town and Boston United, along with a caretaker stint at Barnsley, following a long career as a professional footballer, starting out at Derby County.
Outgoing Fylde boss Taylor signed off with an impressive 2-1 win at Darlington on Saturday, knocking the beaten hosts off top spot. Victory leaves the Coasters eighth in the table with three games in hand over many of the sides above them, having already played seven games in the FA Cup this season. All four of their cup ties have gone to replays.
Gillingham host the non-league side at Priestfield on Tuesday night. The first match saw the Gills take a 1-0 lead through Mikael Mandron before conceding an 83rd minute equaliser and then hanging on to avoid defeat.
Fylde will be hoping an injury to key man Tom Walker - who scored against the Gills and again at the weekend - isn’t too severe. He came off towards the end of the first half on Saturday with a tweak to his hamstring. Striker Danny Rowe also went off with a knock.
Speaking after the match, Taylor said: “It’s a really big game (on Tuesday), one we go into full of confidence. We will recover properly, it’s a real big game for the club and a challenge for the group. We are in a good place and it’s a challenge I am expecting us to rise to.”
Fylde’s Nick Haughton netted again for them on Saturday, taking his tally in the league to 11, joint top of the division’s scoring chart.
