A new goalkeeper remains on manager Justin Edinburgh’s wish-list.

The Gillingham boss secured keeper Glenn Morris on a one-year deal last week and still has fellow senior stopper Stuart Nelson on the club’s books.

But Edinburgh is confident Nelson will be leaving before the new campaign starts and is pushing on with his search for a new keeper regardless.

“We want to bring another goalkeeper to the club,” he confirmed.

“We have had a few enquiries about Nelson and that doesn’t surprise me. I would have been more surprised if there hadn’t.

“I expect something to happen. There is no time frame, because it has been very quiet at the moment. Everyone is being patient.”

Nelson has been made available for transfer after Edinburgh was unable to guarantee him first team football.

Both Nelson and midfielder Josh Pritchard are expected to leave. Pritchard has also been told his chances of first-team football this season would be limited.

“We have been honest,” added Edinburgh. “I have made them both aware that I think they are not going to be starters at the club, which they want to be. I appreciate that and commend them for that but I think both of them will move on.”
