A trip to Swindon can’t come soon enough for Gills boss Justin Edinburgh.

Gillingham’s impressive run of form came to an end with a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Barnsley on Saturday.

But the Gills are back in action on Tuesday at promotion-chasing Swindon.

Edinburgh said: “It’s a good game to be playing in and it’s one I would love to be playing in myself.

“We will be wounded and we want to go and put that right. A few of us probably under-performed (on Saturday) and it is about a reaction and how you bounce back, that is what we have to look at.”

The defeat means the Gills are now six points adrift of the play-off places in League 1. In a tightly-contested division, they are also only seven points away from the bottom four.

Edinburgh said: “We have got 13 games left and for whatever reason there will be teams needing points for different reasons.

“We are looking forward to the next game because those players are hurting in that dressing room, they have given up an unbeaten run, which they have worked ever so hard to get on, and we will be looking to put things right on Tuesday.

“When you lose any game it is disappointing and it is a challenge to put that right. That starts on Monday when we get back onto the training ground and go again.”
