Gillingham have ruled out a loan move for a Premier League midfielder - and denied making a bid for a forward.

Managing director Joe Comper posted on X to inform supporters that the two claims were untrue.

Just a day after claiming that Gillingham had made a bid for National League Barnet’s Idris Kanu, it was suggested that Newcastle midfielder Jamie Miley is a loan target for the club.

However, Comper stated: “Fake news (at least on Gillingham’s part). Second fake story in two days from this account. No bid from us for Kanu at Barnet either.

“Just thought I’d clear that up to stop any unnecessary speculation.”

Speaking about transfers at his weekly press conference, Gillingham manager Mark Bonner said: “We’re always looking, I don’t think there is anything of urgency right now.

“We know a couple of weeks down the line, we will have some options (when players return to fitness).

“If there are additions to the squad that can make us better then fine, but we’re not chasing much at the moment.”
