Gillingham have been drawn away to Birmingham City in round two of the Capital One Cup.
The Gills booked themselves a place in the second round following Tuesday’s 2-1 win at Plymouth.
Late goals from Bradley Dack and Jake Hessenthaler saw the Gills overturn a one goal deficit at Home Park.
Gillingham were one of the unseeded teams, joining the 12 Premier League teams not in European competitions, along with the rest of the round one winners.
Holders Chelsea and top teams Manchester United and Manchester City join the competition in round three.
Championship side Birmingham beat Bristol Rovers in the opening round of the League Cup and enjoyed a win over Reading in their first game of the campaign.
The Gills last met Birmingham in November 2001, drawing 1-1 at Priestfield. They faced each other a month before that in Birmingham, with the home side winning 2-1.
Gillingham met Birmingham in the League Cup in 1997, losing 4-0 on aggregate.
Second round matches take place week commencing August 24.
The Gills made it through to round two last season, losing 1-0 at home to Newcastle United.
Over 10,000 fans packed into Priestfield to watch the match, which was settled by a John Egan own-goal.
Gills boss Justin Edinburgh is a League Cup winner, having helped Tottenham beat Leicester to clinch the trophy in 1999.
Edinburgh was sent off in that match following a tussle with Leicester’s Robbie Savage.
As manager, Edinburgh saw his former club Newport County beaten in the first round last season by Reading, losing 3-1.
Newport enjoyed a better 2013/14 campaign under Edinburgh, beating Brighton 3-1 away after extra time. They lost to Sunderland at The Stadium of Light in round two.
