Gillingham are aiming for a third straight league win when they travel to Walsall on Sunday.

It’s a run of form that has left confidence within the squad sky-high.

Coach Andy Hessenthaler said: “After two (league) wins and a draw (in the JPT) we are full of confidence.

“We’ve had the boys together for a bit of team bonding and we have to keep it going.”

The Gills stayed in Cheltenham following the area final second leg match against Bristol City and trained on Saturday, ahead of a return to action on Sunday.

A 6pm kick-off at Walsall is because their hosts hold a Sunday market in the car park during the day.

Gillingham slipped down to 18 in League 1 following Saturday’s League 1 fixtures but could leapfrog Walsall into 15 with a win at the Bescot Stadium.

In-form winger Jermaine McGlashan is determined to make that happen.

“The boys are confident,” he said.

“We have a chance of picking up three points and that’s what we want. That shows where we are at the minute because we had a spell of losing games and we didn’t know where the win would come from.

“We can take the positives from a tough game against Bristol City.

“Since the caretaker managers took over we have been playing well and giving our all. We are buying into what they are saying.

“I feel we are on a bit of a roll and Sunday is massive. We are looking up.”
