Ben Williamson arrived to bolster Gillingham’s strike-force this week but the club remain on the hunt for another forward.
Boss Justin Edinburgh wants four main strikers to choose from next season.
Former Port Vale striker Williamson joined on a two-year contract this week after rejecting the offer of a new deal at Vale Park.
The 26-year-old will be competing with Cody McDonald and Luke Norris for a starting role but Edinburgh isn’t finished there.
“I am after one more (striker),” said Edinburgh. “I want four there. You don’t want to overload but you certainly want four.”
Williamson scored against the Gills last season, one of his 10 goals from 47 appearances during the campaign.
The striker leaves Port Vale after four years in the Potteries and Edinburgh believes they have a striker who is about to hit his prime.
“He is someone we have monitored for a while,” added Edinburgh.
“When I first came to Gillingham I looked at a few DVDs of the early games and he is someone who caught my eye. He was someone we kept an eye on.
“He is different to what we have, he has a lot of pace, he’s hard working. People might look and think, ‘well he’s not prolific’ but he is developing and we are getting a player coming to
his peak.
“His finishing has improved as he has gone on and we have got him at a good time."
