Gillingham dropped to 18th in the League 1 table with defeat on Saturday – but striker Cody McDonald insists the club are still looking up.
He said: “Notts County have shown what two wins in a row can do, they are up to eighth.
“We are more than capable of getting two wins on the bounce and we will look to do that in the next two league games. Things will then look rosy again.
“There are some quality players in (our squad) and we are more than capable of looking up rather than down. At the minute we are where we are and we will keep plugging away.”
The Gills have been as high as 10th this season but with just one win in their last six, they have slipped down the standings.
“At the moment it is still early doors,” said the 28-year-old. “When you get into those higher positions you need to push on from there rather than sitting off.
“We have been in a decent position and then we didn’t quite go through with it. It is important that if we get into those positions again we can go on a bit.”
