Gillingham’s new no.10 may cause some controversy.

Holding onto his new Gillingham shirt is Boris Johnson, the man tipped to be the next Prime Minister.

He’s battling it out with Jeremy Hunt to be the next Conservative leader and the new PM.

Mr Johnson was presented a Gills shirt by MP for Gillingham and Rainham, Rehman Chishti, who is backing Boris for Prime Minister.

A regular at Gillingham games, Mr Chisti tweeted: “Presenting Boris Johnson with his No 10 GillsFC shirt.

“From speaking with members and constituents they are clear Boris Johnson can unite our great country, deliver Brexit, defeat Corbyn.”

Gillingham are busy putting together a squad capable of challenging at the top half of League 1 this season.

Gills fans will hope he doesn't get to wear the shirt, judging by his skills on show while wearing an England one.

Mr Chishti writes a column in the Gills matchday programme and regularly promotes the club.

He was at Priestfield last week to meet new manager Steve Evans, saying: “Wish him every success for the upcoming season.

“Agree with SE vision for the season ahead “to break into the elite clubs of League 1 this season is going to be a rollercoaster one.”

He took fellow MP Dominic Raab to Gills’ training ground recently, to meet the players and chairman Paul Scally to chat about grassroots football.

Mr Scally has himself called on government intervention to break the unbalance of wealth in the English game.
