Justin Edinburgh felt that the spark was back in his team on Saturday.

The Gills overturned a one-goal deficit to win 3-1 against Bury and return to the top of League 1.

Gillingham manager Edinburgh said: ”We got back to our best in terms of energy and togetherness and a will to work hard for each other.

“If you do that then more times than not you will get a result.

“We made some changes and we got the energy and that spark back that perhaps we had been missing over the last week. Credit to the players and the fans that we got the victory that we deserved.

“We had a great incentive to go back to the top of the league, they grasped it and put themselves back there.”

The Gills went a goal behind after just four minutes despite a positive start.

Edinburgh said: “It was well against the run of play but that gives me great belief in the group. It didn’t affect us. We got back on the saddle, went about it in the right way and deservedly won the game.

“We started the game well and I felt for the players to have fallen behind. That is part of growing up for this group and learning and improving all the time.

"The set-back didn’t rock us and within minutes we were back in the game and went onto win.

“It was a very good team performance and I was very pleased with the all units and how compact we were. The thing for me, over the last 10 days is that we probably lost a spark, but we certainly had that again.”

The game was wrapped up by a thrilling goal late on by Emmanuel Osadebe.

“The finish was sublime and it was nothing that he didn’t deserve,” added the manager.
