Gillingham coach Darren Hare felt Saturday’s win was richly deserved.
The Gills had lost their last three since the sacking of Peter Taylor but have displayed attacking intent in the games under the caretaker management team.
Against Coventry they got their rewards thanks to a trio of late goals.
“The lads were absolutely fantastic and they have been for the last few weeks,” said the club’s academy manager.
“Since the manager left it has been difficult for them and it has been difficult for us.
“The players showed they have all the values that we appreciate at Gillingham Football Club and to come back from 1-0 down and go on and win the game, in the manner that we did, was very pleasing.
“The players got their just rewards. They have worked extremely hard under difficult circumstances.
“It wasn’t easy but they showed what a good group they are and how together they are.
“We created a lot of chances and it was nice to see us get something and go on and win and get the points.”
The Gills were a goal behind after conceding a first-half penalty.
And it wasn’t until the 82 minute that they found the equaliser. Two more goals followed up wrap up the win.
“If you don’t have belief you don’t deserve to be a professional footballer,” said the coach.
“The players have always had that belief but things conspired against us a bit in the last few games.
“We were positive and competitive and we were a little unlucky to be 1-0 down. Jake Hessenthaler hit the bar and their keeper made a great save early doors.
“At half time it was important to keep going and keep at it. We hoped something would fall for us and it did.
“The players kept battling away, kept probing, kept trying different things, kept running and kept competing and we were lucky enough to get the breaks.”
