Gillingham are close to sealing a deal for goalkeeper Glenn Morris.
The 31-year-old ended the season as first-choice keeper under boss Justin Edinburgh.
And he looks set to commit himself to the club for another season.
“We are close,” Edinburgh confirmed.
“We will hopefully have good news on that sooner, rather than later.
“I don’t think we are too far away and we will look to get that concluded pretty soon.”
Morris played the last nine games of the season, taking his appearance tally for the Gills to 12.
Who he competes for the no.1 shirt alongside next season, however, remains unclear.
Edinburgh confirmed that he has had “one or two enquiries” for fellow keeper Stuart Nelson, after allowing the former player-of-the-year to look elsewhere for first-team football.
Tentative enquiries have also been made for midfielder Josh Pritchard, who requested a transfer at the end of the season due to being homesick.
“Like most things, the activity, in terms of anything being concluded is quite slow at the moment,” Edinburgh said.
“Teams are talking to a lot of people, a lot of things are being thrown about with people meeting players and securing their current staff.”
The Gills have been linked elsewhere with a move for former Dundee keeper Kyle Letheren but Edinburgh scotched those rumours.
He said: “Nope. That is not true.”
