Goalkeeper Glenn Morris has signed a new deal at Gillingham.

The 40-year-old was one of two out-of-contract players offered extended deals by new boss Mark Bonner. The club are also hoping midfielder Dom Jefferies will extend his stay.

Morris was no.2 choice last season behind Jake Turner after the pair switched roles for the 2023/24 campaign.

Turner had spent the previous season as an understudy to Morris, who won the player-of-the-year trophy.

Morris is seen as a reliable back-up keeper and played 14 matches last season, featuring in the EFL Trophy and League Cup matches before stepping in to cover when Turner got injured towards the end of the season. He held onto his place in the team for several weeks.

The experienced keeper was with the Gills for two seasons between 2014-16 before moving to Crawley Town where he excelled, making over 250 appearances.

He returned to the Gills, initially on loan for the 2023/23 season before making the deal permanent. Last summer he signed a one-year extension and he’s again agreed to prolong his stay at the club for another year.

Morris said: “I’m really pleased to get my contract signed and sorted so early on in the off-season. It was an easy decision for me and my family.

“I’m enjoying my time at Gillingham and I can’t wait to get back to work with all the boys and staff. I’m excited for the future and what the new season will bring.”

The Gills now have three professional goalkeepers on the books after youth player Taite Holtam signed his first senior contract this week.
