Chatham’s survival hopes suffered another blow in the week – but they are boosted by the arrival of additional firepower.

Striker Ricky Gundry is back at the club in a bid to try and help them avoid dropping out of Ryman League, Division 1 South, starting at home to Three Bridges on Saturday.

Relegation fears have deepened after rivals Guernsey picked up another point in the week with a 3-3 draw at Sittingbourne.

That result leaves Chatham now nine points adrift of safety. Boss Paul Piggott remains optimistic, however, with 45 points still up for grabs.

He said: “We are concerned but there are still a lot of points to play for. We’ve got 15 games left, there is plenty to play for and all the time there is, we will keep fighting.”

Gundry left Chatham in September for Sittingbourne after being released.

Piggott added: “He wasn’t able to play last Saturday because of a slight injury but could be available on Saturday. He’s been out for a few weeks but has done a few sessions and will hopefully be fit."

Gundry could be facing his old club on Monday when Brickies head to Maidstone Road for a league fixture.

But it’s Three Bridges first. Chatham’s weekend opponents are two points behind them but with a game in hand.

Chats will continue to monitor Tom Michelson, who has been struggling with a hamstring injury.
