Charlie Kelman marked his QPR return with a hat-trick after being sent back from his loan at Gillingham.

Kelman failed to shine with the Gills and his last appearance for the club was in the Papa John’s Trophy against West Ham under-21s when he was taken off at half-time.

The 20-year-old returned to QPR at the end of last month at the request of Gillingham having failed to find the net in eight appearances.

He was back in a QPR shirt on Tuesday and netted three goals in a Professional Development League match against Ipswich Town under-23s. The Rs won the match 4-2 at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium.

A neat first goal and a couple of poacher’s finishes led to his hat-trick with just over an hour played. He was replaced after 71 minutes.

Gillingham’s loan deal with QPR still stands but it remains to be seen if the striker will pull on a Gills shirt again. He was originally sent back with Steve Evans saying they would look at the arrangement again.

Commenting on his last appearance at the time, Gills assistant Paul Raynor said: “He’s done okay but doing okay hasn’t forced himself into the team so it’s a disappointment.

“I’m sure it’s a disappointment for Charlie, I’m sure it’s a disappointment for QPR because they don’t send their players not for them to play.

“They’ll be disappointed he’s not forced his way in but we have to be honest, if his performances don’t deserve a starting place, they won’t get one, it’s as simple as that, no matter where you come from.”
