Medway’s Brandon Ball has been rubbing shoulders with some of the sport’s elite ahead of his latest pro fight.

He’s looking to make it 3-0 when he fights on David Haye’s show at York Hall on Friday.

Promoter Haye, a former two-weight world champion, has likened the 21-year-old super featherweight to one of boxing’s superstar fighters Oscar De La Hoya, a multi-weight world champion who retired in 2009.

Ball was training ahead of his fight at the Hayemaker gym in Vauxhall where he came face to face with Haye.

“I’m walking in the footsteps of the stars,” said the young pro.

“It’s great to be meeting role models and boxing idols of mine.

“David has been great for helping with my publicity and was filming my pad-work at the gym.”

Haye filmed the session live and broadcast it to his own fans, saying: “He’s 21-years-old and fresh as a daisy. He may look like he’s in a boy band but he’s tougher than he looks!

“He’s going to be the next British Oscar De La Hoya. He’s ready for business.”

Prior to that Ball was sparring Barry McGuigan’s talented fighter Lee McGregor.

Ball has won his first two fights on points, seeing off the challenge from Jules Phillips and Jamie Speight.

Next up for him is Luke Fash, fighting over four rounds.

Fash has 44 fights, winning just two of them, and Ball doesn’t expect any problems.

Ball said: “He knows what he is doing but I’ll do what I do best and like every boxer I meet, I’ll adapt.

"He’s had a fair few fights but I am quite a bit taller than him and if I can catch him with a few straight shots I should be able to stop him.”

The boxer has recently switched gyms, working with new trainer Richard Sawyer at the Bodyshots Gym in Crayford, moving there instead of training in West Ham.

“Now I can work every day as well as train,” he said. “I feel like this is now a step up for me.”
