Invicta Dynamos were thrashed 9-0 by Chelmsford Chieftains on a Sunday night to forget at Gillingham Ice Rink.
Victory would have moved Mos level on points with Chelmsford at the top of Division 1 South - but the hosts fell apart.
Mos were only a goal down at the end of the first period and still very much in the match.
But poor defending in the second session was punished as Chelmsford opened up a 5-0 advantage.
Four more goals followed in the final period, with Mos relieved to hear the buzzer.
Dynamos appeared to be in good shape for the Chelmsford game having won 6-2 at Cardiff on Saturday night.
Michal Oravec and Callum Fowler gave Invicta a 2-1 lead from a goal down at the end of the first period.
Juraj Huska made it three, then Peter Beerling scored his first goal since returning.
A second followed for the hosts but Oravec and Fowler completed Mos' victory before the end of the second period.
