New signing Ryan Jackson has the potential to be a crowd pleaser says Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh.
Edinburgh has already spent the best part of two years working with the full-back at former club Newport.
And the manager is confident Jackson can replicate his attacking antics at the higher level, now he has signed for League 1 Gills.
“He was one we needed to act swiftly on,” said Edinburgh, who made Jackson his first permanent signing as Gillingham boss.
“We certainly weren’t the only team chasing his signature. I am delighted to have concluded that one sooner rather than later.
“I think he ticks all the boxes of what we’re looking for, in terms of dynamic, pace, quality, he’s a great age at 24 and still way off his prime, but certainly I am sure he will be a fans’ favourite.
“He is a threat and I think he will get the crowd off their seats.”
Jackson can play the traditional full-back role but comes alive when he’s got licence to use his pace as a wing-back. It’s a system Edinburgh adopted towards the end of last season.
“He loves to attack,” added Edinburgh. “He is a good defender but he is very good at going the other way as well."
