Holcombe player Nick Bandurak scored two as England twice came back from three goals down to draw 4-4 with India in a Commonwealth Games thriller.
The draw keeps unbeaten England top of pool B and they will progress to the last four if they can avoid defeat against Canada on Thursday (4pm) in their final group match.
England had trailed 3-0 and 4-1 in the match but Bandurak’s double and a goal from Holcombe summer signing Ian Roper helped them to a stunning comeback.
Banudrak, who has seven goals from three games, said: “Once the emotion dies down and we can reflect coldly on it, we should never have found ourselves in that deficit.
“India were ruthless and clinical and we just weren’t getting that final connection in the circle.
“Sport’s funny, isn’t it? As soon as the second half started to roll, the crowd got behind us, we got extra energy, things started to happen in the 23m and happened for us. A few more minutes and I believe it could have gone in our favour.”
Completing the Holcombe trio for England is goalkeeper Ollie Payne and he had mixed emotions after the India draw.
He said: “There are loads and loads of emotions. We shouldn’t have started poorly but the character to come back and do what we did was pretty special. I haven’t played in front of a home crowd like that, ever.
“We know how good this side can be, I think we showed that in the second half.
“The first half wasn’t anywhere near our best. Result aside, that performance is something we can be proud of. That’s what we can take away, our forwards look like they are starting to really kick up a gear and are a real threat.
“I’m very proud and very frustrated.”
