Gavin Hoyte will miss Friday’s game after Gillingham decided not to appeal Tuesday night’s red card.

The right-back was dismissed for a second half challenge on Stevenage player Roarie Deacon.

Hoyte was sent off for serious foul play by referee Darren Deadman and will serve a three match ban, which starts immediately.

He misses the games at Coventry and Oldham and the home match against Peterborough United.

Gills boss Peter Taylor had initially said he didn’t agree with the red card but subsequently reviewed the incident and decided not to appeal. The FA could have quashed the decision or, if they disagreed with the appeal, extended it further.

Taylor could now decide to play Matt Fish in the right-back position, or bring youngster Josh Hare into the team. John Egan can also play in that role.

Winger Jermaine McGlashan said this week he too can play wing-back if required.

Gillingham’s match against Coventry will be televised and visiting fans were quick to snap up the 350 available tickets. Plenty more Gillingham fans are expected to pay on the day.

Home ticket sales have continued to go well. The Ricoh Arena holds over 32,000 fans and the club have been selling tickets as fast as possible ahead of their return to the City. Supporters are advised to arrive early for Friday’s game.
