Jermaine McGlashan was the butt of his team-mates jokes after his “miss-of-the-season” against Crawley Town.

But boss Peter Taylor saluted the pacey wing-man who helped turn the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie on its head.

McGlashan drew the match level at 1-1, with his first goal for the club, but missed a chance to score a second when sliding onto Bradley Dack’s cross. He skied the effort from a yard out.

“He is not the best finisher but I thought he took his goal superbly well,” said a grinning Taylor.

“He had to be calm and he did terrific and to finish it with his left foot as well. I am really pleased for him.

“We were a little panicky for him to start the match, because of the way he uses his hamstrings. We know Saturday is another massive game and we were being careful.

“We didn’t want to start him because we didn’t think he could maybe do two 90s, but he did make a big difference to our team and even when you go down to 10 men, when he runs, he runs like two men at times. That helped the team.”

When Taylor was asked to comment on the miss, he said: “We had a good laugh with McGlashan as that was miss of the season.

“Bradley Dack did ever so well with the cross and did everything for him. It was just a case of putting it in but he put it over the bar.”
