Ryan Jackson could make a welcome return for Gillingham at Crewe this weekend.

The pacey right-back has missed the last three games with a groin injury.

Boss Justin Edinburgh will be thrilled to have him back available. Prior to the injury, sustained in the 5-1 win over Fleetwood, Jackson had started every game.

Edinburgh said: “He is back in training and if that all goes well between now and Saturday then he comes back into the squad.

“He has been key to our success this season. He has had an excellent start to his career at Gillingham and that would be a big plus for us.”

His position has been filled by Aaron Morris, who has also impressed Edinburgh after his own return from injury.

“Aaron has done ever so well,” said Edinburgh. “He defended really well on Saturday when he came on and the competition really is hotting up.”

The club are still unsure as to the timing of Doug Loft’s return. The skipper has been missing recently with an Achilles injury and still isn’t training.

Edinburgh said: “He is having some treatment and it is progressing, but it is delicate.

“We wanted to make sure when we get them back we keep them back but it hasn’t been the case with Lofty. We will have to be a little mindful of that.”
