Josh Wright has finally completed a move to Gillingham's League 1 rivals Southend United.
The former Gills captain had been in talks with Southend since tearing up his Priestfield contract.
He left Gillingham after a disagreement with boss Ady Pennock.
He was unhappy over the decision to drop him to the bench in a match against Southend last month.
Wright enjoyed his best spell for the Gills during the second half of last season, hitting 11 goals from January onwards, despite having the captaincy taken off him by manager Ady Pennock.
His form led to speculation that he could be on the way in the summer, with Charlton Athletic believed to be the front-runners, but no deal arose.
He began the season at Gillingham and was involved in the first four games, starting three of them, but wasn’t happy when Pennock left him out for the Southend game.
Just days later Wright agreed to a mutual termination of his contract, leaving him free to join another club.
Wright has signed an initial one year deal at Roots Hall, saying: “I can’t wait to get out there now, on the training pitch and in the games, and give my best for the great fans that they’ve got here.”
