Lordswood made history on Saturday with a comeback FA Cup victory.
Trailing early on against Isthmian South Central visitors Binfield, lower-league Lordswood roared back with three second-half goals to win 3-1, making it past the first qualifying round for the first time in their history.
They will now play Sittingbourne at home in the second qualifying round on Saturday, September 14.
The Brickies booked their trip to Martyn Grove after seeing off Dover 1-0 in a replay at Crabble on Tuesday night. That result denied Lords boss Nicky Southall the chance to take on a team he previously served as assistant manager.
Lordswood followed their own weekend FA Cup match-up with a 2-1 Southern Counties East Premier Division defeat at Snodland Town on Tuesday night. They head to Punjab United this Saturday.
Southall said: “We have had a really good start to the season and teams are going to want to beat us. We’ve become a target, almost.
“Punjab aren’t going to be easy this Saturday, they are a strong outfit at this level, but we beat them last season with 10 men and hopefully the footballing gods will be on our side again.”
Callum Peck had opened the scoring early on against Snodland but the home side scored a quickfire double before the break and hung onto that lead.
Last Saturday, Matt Gething cancelled out Binfield’s 14th-minute opener, scoring just after the restart and Elliott Duncan netted on 66 and 87 minutes to complete a memorable cup win.
“We didn’t deserve to go in 1-0 down at the break,” said Southall on the cup win.
“We had a couple off the line first half and they didn’t really create much.
“We switched off once from a corner and a lucky deflection for them led to their lad hooking it in from a tight angle.
“At half-time I said to the lads don’t panic. There were chances there for us. If we got a goal we could cause an upset and that’s what we did and we fully deserved it.”
Southall had watched the visiting keeper Kacper Orlowski spend a lot of time out of his box and made sure his lads took full advantage.
“He spent more time out of his box than in it,” remarked the manager.
“We were trying to play too much intricate football and I said to start dropping it over the top because with their defenders running back and the goalkeeper out of goal, I could see a mistake.”
The equaliser came from a poor pass from the keeper to his defender which Jake Embery intercepted before showing good composure to find Gething and he scored.
Duncan’s first came from a long throw and Southall said: “The goalkeeper was in no man’s land, coming out, and we managed to get the ball to the back stick where Elliott Duncan had gambled.
“For the third goal, the keeper came flying out and Elliott lobbed him from 40 yards on a tight angle.”
Victory was Lordswood’s third in the competition so far this season having previously beaten Shoreham and Erith & Belvedere. Lordswood have also seen off Banstead Athletic in the FA Vase first qualifying round.
Those wins have added £5,369 to the bank balance in prize money alone.
