It’s all or nothing for Lordswood this Saturday.

A surprise defeat for Premier Division leaders Blackheath last weekend has left the title tantalisingly close for Lordswood.

They host Tenterden in their final game of the season this weekend while Blackheath, who are just a point better off than Lordswood, visit lowly Beckenham.

Lordswood now need to win their game and hope Blackheath slip up again.

Captain Chris Piesley, who blasted 94 off 74 balls in last weekend’s win over Bromley Common, said: “We just need to make sure we don’t take our eye off the ball.

"Missing out on the title by a point would hurt a lot but not as much as if we don’t do what we need to. We just need to make sure we do our bit and end the season on a high.”

Lordswood are seven unbeaten, following a slow start, and have piled the pressure on the league leaders. During that same period Blackheath have lost five games.

Piesley will be hoping for one more slip-up for Blackheath, against a Beckenham team who aren’t short of quality, with Kent’s Alex Blake part of their squad.

Asked if the pressure had got to their rivals, Piesley said: “I am not in their dressing room, so can’t really say, but it would appear so. It seemed like it when they were playing against us and I am sure if they didn’t have someone chomping at their heels they would have been more relaxed and got a few more results.

“I just hope Beckenham have everyone available and I’m begging that he (Blake) turns up.”

Lordswood kept themselves in the hunt thanks to a 127-run victory over Bromley Common last weekend.

“We batted okay but we bowled really well,” he said, modestly describing his own performance as ‘glorified slogging’. “Everyone bowled well and that rarely happens, there was no pressure release from us.”

They are up against a Tenterden side this weekend who are already relegated.

“That could be a banana skin,” warned the captain. “Especially if they throw the kitchen sink at us and get away with it. By Saturday evening it could be a case of what could have been or wow.”
