Adam Miller could be leading Gillingham out against Aston Villa on Sunday after temporarily taking the captain’s armband last weekend against Wycombe.

Manager Mark Stimson has indicated that Miller could once again be the man to skipper the side in Barry Fuller’s absence and the midfielder expressed his delight at the possibility.

He said: “It would be a great honour to lead the team out and a special moment for me.

“Captaining the side was top drawer and I was really happy. The year started indifferently for me and to get the backing of the gaffer was great and I enjoyed it.”

Miller is relishing the prospect of facing Villa in the third round of the FA Cup and dismissed any suggestions that pressure would get to the team.

He said: “If you go out and start to feel the pressure, then you’re in the wrong game because it’s our job and it’s what we get paid to do.

“It’s an exciting occasion for me and I want to play in front of as many people as I can. I would rather it was in front of 50,000 people at Villa Park. Maybe we can nick a draw and go there anyway.”
