Medway and Maidstone AC beaten to promotion in UK Youth Development League in final match of the season

Medway and Maidstone’s young athletes just missed out on promotion after the final UK Youth Development League, Division 3 match at Lewes, writes Alan Newman.

The competition for under-13 and under-15 boys and girls resulted in a win for divisional champions Bexley AC, with M&M battling for second place ahead of Worthing. They finished two points behind the champions in the final standings.

The under-15 boys enjoyed a double in the 200m from Rory Kuypers (24.2sec) and Nathan Isaac (25.2). Reegan Archer took the 1,500m (4min27.1sec) and Jack Royden won the shot (13.26m).

At under-13 level there was superb sprinting from Jack Smith and Jacob Wells, with a double in the 100m in identical times (14.2) and at 200m with Wells (29.3) fastest by 0.3sec. Smith and Wells were joined by Steven Abbott and Bashiri Ryan to win the 4x100m relay (56.2).

Jade Oni (1.65) and Lucy Maunders (1.40) won both strings of the under-15 girls’ high jump and the best results on the track were a brace of second places for Maunders (12.9) and Lauren Farley (13.5) in the 75m hurdles.

Kaliyah Young took the under-13 150m (21.7) and Hollie Newman won the shot (8.70) and there were good points from the 1,200m with runners-up spots for Charlotte Young (4.08.8) and Alexandria Baker-Jones (4.27.3).
