Fit-again Aaron Morris hopes more good performances for Gillingham next season might earn him a call-up to the Wales squad.

The Cardiff-born midfielder has eight under-21 caps to his name but he’s never featured for the senior side.

Chris Coleman’s team are flying in Euro 2016 qualifying and Morris would jump at the chance to play alongside stars like Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey.

The 25-year-old said: “The majority of the players they take now are from the Premier League and the Championship but there are a couple from League 1 who get

pulled in.

“If I did ever get the chance, I’d take it with both hands. It’s a nice carrot to try to get hold of and should push me on to do better.

“The guy who was quite fond of me, Brian Flynn, isn’t part of the set-up any more so I’m not sure if he can still rub shoulders with a couple of people who are involved. If I carry on playing and the team’s doing well, hopefully I can improve.

“It would be fantastic if I could get in and around that squad but they’ve got a lot of good players now. They’re playing amazingly well, so I’m not going to hold my breath.”

Since missing most of January and all of February with a hamstring strain, Morris has started seven of the Gills’ last 10 games in League 1.

He added: “Towards the end of the season, I’ve got a good run of games. When I came back from injury, I more-or-less went straight back in and I’m happy with the situation now."
