Gills boss Justin Edinburgh was delighted with Glenn Morris’ first league shut-out.

The keeper has started Gillingham’s last five games and he had to be on top form to keep Bradford City at bay on Saturday.

His performance earned him the sponsor’s man-of-the-match award.

Edinburgh said: “He made a great save in the first half, down to his right, then I think Max Ehmer got a great block in.

“He deserved that Glenn. I am delighted for him to keep a clean sheet but all in all it was a very good team performance, contrasting with a first half where there were bodies on the line and lots of balls into the box, then the second half we grew into it and started to impose ourselves.”

Former Aldershot stopper Morris has replaced Stuart Nelson in goal over the last few weeks, as Edinburgh felt the 31-year-old deserved a chance.

The Gills boss said: “Everyone deserves a chance and I think he has earned it. He has been good.

“That is not to say that Nels did anything wrong. I had to be as fair as I could to give people opportunities.

“I haven’t got one eye on next season or anything. I just felt that from what I had seen in training and development games that he deserved that chance.”

Reacting to his clean sheet, Morris said: “It was nice to get one and it’s a bit of a monkey off your back. When you are playing and letting in goals, even if it’s nothing you can do, you still want a clean sheet.

“You don’t want to see the goals (conceded) on the television and it is a relief more than anything.

“I don’t want to get too excited about one game and you don’t get too low when things go wrong.”
