Stuart Nelson may have played his last game for Gillingham.

The 2013/14 player-of-the-year is no longer first-choice at the Gills and the club are willing to let him go.

“Stuart Nelson wants to be No.1 and I can’t guarantee him that,” said Gills boss Justin Edinburgh, who has offered fellow keeper Glenn Morris a new one-year deal.

“I am always honest and I couldn’t guarantee he would be No.1. I think at this stage of his career and what he is used to, he wants to be given the indication that would be the case and I didn’t do that.

“There were no voices raised. He has conducted himself correctly every day in training and I would have no qualms in calling upon him, but what Stuart’s needs are, I can’t guarantee those."

Nelson, who has been linked with Ebbsfleet previously, has another season left of his contract at Gillingham.

His availability could alert former Gills boss Martin Allen, who has just led Barnet to the Conference Premier title.

Morris, who is out of contract this summer, played the last nine games of the season for Gillingham.
